BOOST WORKSHOP: Ulag Zone at Scream Factory Recording Studio-MXR

ITA: Con ritardo (scusate) cominciamo a parlare di cosa abbiamo fatto in quella giornata di delirio, allo Scream Factory Recording Studio del buon Damiano Paoloni, eccellente fonico e persona davvero solare.
Una giornata dove abbiamo sperimentato varie situazioni: distorsioni, boost (molti)...e suoni, spesso fuori dalla norma, a volte, anche troppo estremizzati.
Oggi parliamo di questo bestio: MXR Dime Distortion.
Ovviamente, non l'abbiamo usato come distorsore puro (trovate 2 tipi di test nel mio canale youtube), ma come boost, ruolo che personalmente, gli reputo più congeniale.
La catena a tal proposito è stata:
-3 chitarre; Ibanez Xyphos con pickup artigianali Pickupmakers, accordata un tono sotto (re), Ibanez Rg 7 corde con pickup Seymour Duncan Blackout e Ibanez 8 corde fanned con EMG 909X accordatura standard (Fa# grave)
-Soldano SP-77 serie II, finale Mesa 2:Fifty e 4x12 Marshall 1960 con coni celestion G12T
-Microfoni EV RE20, Shure SM57, Sennheiser MD421 e Audix I5
-Come preamp microfonici, sono stati usati Neve 1073 (serie 500), API 512C (serie 500), Focusrite ISA428 e Chandler Limited TG2-500

Il Dime, va detto, non ha trovato la sua giusta accoppiata con il Soldano, probabilmente a causa dell'anima vintage del preamp.
Suono sicuramente compresso ed esplosivo, ma asciugato fin troppo in gamma bassa.
Utilizzabile comunque in contesti di ultra-lowtuning, da accoppiare ad un suono di basso bello corposo.
Per esperienza personale, posso dire che invece, inserito in catena prima di un Mesa od un vecchio Hughes & Kettner, può veramente stupire.
Una versione sotto steroidi di un OD808.
Ovviamente, ai più attenti, il sapore "made in Pantera" arriverà subito all'orecchio, ma questo, non necessariamente può essere un male!
Certo, lo sconsiglierei per produzioni pop...

A day where We have exprerienced various situations: distortions, boost (many) and sounds, often out of the norm, sometime even too extreme.
Today, we talk about this beast: MXR Dime Distortion.
Of course, We did not use as a pure distortion (you can find 2 types of test in my YouTube Channel), but like boost, role that personally, I consider the most congenial.
The signal chain was:
-3 guitars; Ibanez Xyphos with a custom pickup by Pickupmakers, tuned 1 step down (D), Ibanez RG 7 strings with Seymour Duncan Blackout pickup and Ibanez 8 strings fanned with EMG 909X pickup, standard tuning (F# low)
-Soldano SP-77 series II, Mesa 2.Fifty power amp and 4x12 Marshall cabinet, with Celestion G12T speakers
-Microphones EV RE20, Shure SM57, Sennheiser MD421 and Audix I5
-For mic preamp, We used neve 1073 (500), API 512C (500), Focusrite ISA 428 and Chandler Limited TG2-500

The Dime, honestly, do not has found the right team with the Soldano, probably because the vintage soul of preamp.
Surely compressed and explosive sound, but too dry in low range.
Still appicable in ultra-lowtuning contexts, to be "coupled" to a bass sound fucking fat.
In my personal experience, instead I can say that inserted in chain before a Mesa or an old Hughes & Kettner, can really astonish!
A steroid version of a OD808!
Of course, to the most attentive, the "made in Pantera" taste will comes to you ear, but this, not necessarily can be a bad thing!
Sure, I would NOT recommend for pop productions...
