Secondo appuntamento con "5 Stabs With..."!
Questa volta vado a chiacchierare con un mio collega produttore e tecnico di studio, da tempo collaboratore con mia grande soddisfazione.
Nondimeno ho la fortuna di poterlo considerare un mio amico stimato!
Parlo di Federico "Ferro" Ferretti, proprietario del Dark Wave Recording Studio di Maltignano (AP) nonché chitarrista di lungo corso, dove qualcuno se lo ricorderà con i folli Hybrida, ad esempio.
Tra le altre cose, produttore di hardware top class quali testate per chitarra, pedalini, preamp a valvole e ben altro è in uscita da quelle fucine infernali!!!
Come sempre, basta parole, avanti con i fatti!
1-Partiamo a cannone: i maggiori problemi con la marmaglia che entra in studio?

FFF-Innanzitutto grazie per l'intervista!
Quello del Sound Engineer di studio lo trovo uno dei lavori più belli del mondo e quindi ogni problema non lo considero realmente tale...tuttavia la frase che ripeto come un mantra a tutti gli artisti che vogliono registrare è una: VENITE IN STUDIO CON LE IDEE CHIARE!!
Lo studio è il posto dove le idee musicali si trasformano in qualcosa di materiale...e nonostante da fuori sembri un gran divertimento in realtà una sessione di registrazione è stancante come una maratona: è necessaria tanta concentrazione e preparazione, le idee chiare servono per andare a colpo sicuro e ridurre stress, frustrazioni varie ed ottenere presto e bene il risultato desiderato dall'artista...per tutto il resto esiste la sala prove! 😉
2-Se potessi occuparti di un determinato genere, quello che artisticamente ti fa stare meglio, che davvero ti invoglia a lavorare, quale sceglieresti?
FFF-Il mio "habitat naturale" si trova in tutto il metal di stampo moderno che va dalla fine degli anni 90 in poi, in particolar modo degli anni 2000: nu metal/industrial /metalcore/metal alternative...ma apprezzo molto anche il punk di ogni era e recentemente anche le atmosfere rarefatte del post rock!
3-Sappiamo che sei chitarrista e cantante dei folli Hybrida, dai, sgancia qualche bomba, avremo possibilità di un album in questa vita o nell'altra?
FFF-Gli Hybrida non si sono mai ufficialmente sciolti ma sono soltanto in "stand by" a tempo indeterminato...nonostante le inevitabili diverse direzioni che la vita ci ha riservato siamo ancora tutti e quattro in rapporti fraterni e spesso abbiamo nostalgia di quel bellissimo periodo...quindi...chissà cosa ci riserverà il futuro?? Il fuoco cova sotto la cenere...
4-Domanda spinosa: dell'eterna diatriba analogico/digitale, tu dove propendi?
Ed in generale, hai preferenze?
Qui vogliamo un discorso approfondito!
FFF-Uh, bella domanda davvero! Io sono sempre stato dell'idea "meglio un digitale di altissima qualità rispetto ad un analogico mediocre"! Indubbiamente il calore dell'analogico è magico e insostituibile... ma non dimentichiamo tutte le magagne e lungaggini che porta con se: meno flessibilità, tempi maggiori nel settaggio, svariati rumori e fruscii vari se le macchine non sono ben calibrate...lavorare in the box con dei plugins di elevata qualità invece ti permette di passare da un progetto all'altro richiamando tutti i settaggi con la velocità di un clic...nel mio caso, in cui ogni giorno mi capita di lavorare contemporaneamente su brani di diversi generi musicali è una salvezza!

L'ideale darebbe basarsi sul digitale ma sfruttando solo alcuni tipi di hardware analogico che colorino il suono in modo evidente...il meglio dei due mondi diciamo!

FFF-Questi sei anni di attività al Dark Wave sono stati di soddisfazioni in costante crescita nonostante i vari stop causa pandemia: lo scopo è quello di continuare a produrre bella musica per i tantissimi artisti in giro dal gran talento...invece come mio progetto personale c'è sempre l'idea di un bell'album industrial metal sempre rimandato per i troppi impegni...ma sono fiducioso!

FFF-First of all thanks for the interview!
I find that the studio Sound Engineer is one of the most beautiful works in the world and therefore I do not really consider every problem such ... however the phrase that I repeat like a mantra to all the artists who want to record is one: COME IN THE STUDIO WITH THE CLEAR IDEAS!!
The studio is the place where musical ideas are transformed into something material ... and although from the outside it seems like much fun, in reality, a recording session is as tiring as a marathon: a lot of concentration and preparation is needed, and clear ideas are required to go without fail and reduce stress, various frustrations and quickly and well get the result desired by the artist ... for everything else, there is the rehearsal room! 😉
2-If you could deal with a certain genre, the one that artistically makes you feel better, that really makes you want to work, which one would you choose?
FFF-My "natural habitat" is found in all the modern metal that goes from the late 90s onwards, especially the 2000s: nu-metal/industrial/metalcore/metal alternative ... but I also really appreciate punk of every era and recently also the rarefied atmosphere of post-rock!
3-We know that you are the guitarist and singer of the crazy Hybrida, come on, drop some bombs, will we have the possibility of an album in this life or in the next?
FFF-The Hybrida have never officially "split up" but are only in "stand by" indefinitely ... despite the inevitable different directions that life has reserved for us we are still all four in fraternal relationships and often we miss that beautiful period ... so ... who knows what the future holds? The fire smolders ...
4-Thorny question: where do you lean toward the eternal analog/digital diatribe?
And in general, do you have preferences?
Here we want an in-depth talk!
FFF-Uh, really good question! I have always been of the idea "better a very high quality digital than a mediocre analog"! Undoubtedly, the warmth of analog is magical and irreplaceable ... but let's not forget all the flaws and delays it brings with it: less flexibility, longer setting times, various noises, and various rustles if the machines are not well calibrated ... work in the box with high-quality plugins instead allows you to switch from one project to another by recalling all the settings with the speed of a click ... in my case, in which every day I happen to work simultaneously on songs from different musical genres is salvation!
The ideal would be based on digital but using only some types of analog hardware that color the sound in an evident way ... the best of both worlds let's say!

FFF-These six years of activity at the Dark Wave have been one of constantly growing satisfaction despite the various stops due to pandemics: the aim is to continue to produce beautiful music for the many artists around with great talent ... instead of as my personal project c 'is always the idea of a good industrial metal album always postponed for too many commitments ... but I'm confident!
